Area Description

Cala Gonone has three wonderful beaches, all within walking distance from the harbour; “Central Beach”, “Palmasera Beach” and “Sos Dorroles”. A further three beaches, considered to be some of the most beautiful in world – and location to Madonna’s movie (Love, Sex, Drugs and Money), are all within a few kms from the harbour.

40 km of limestone cliffs and rock formations scatter the coastline interrupted here and there by beautiful coves, secluded caves and hidden beaches. Only accessible by boat, the coves are surrounded by beautiful crystal clear waters, offering wonderful swimming and snorkelling opportunities. Additional boat excursions, be it fishing or tailor-made trips, can also be arranged on the harbour. Alternatively shuttle ferries can be caught directly at the harbour, transferring you to the sandy beach of Cala Luna.

Cala Gonone has a lot to offer the discerning traveller. Surrounded by fabulous hills and mountains, the terrain is ideal for walking, hiking, free climbing and mountain biking (organised excursions again can be arranged). For the less active, the nearby countryside is of historically interest, an archaeological site, neuralgic village, makes an interesting day out.

For visitors keen on wildlife, The Royal Eagle and Griffon Vulture are regular residents and both birds can often be seen nesting on the cliff tops. And further inland, herds of mouflon can be easily stumbled across.
